A young cop from Tamil Nadu ended his life after a fight with his wife over working on Diwali day.
28-year-old Ganesh from Ambattur was a constable with the 13th battalion of Tamil Nadu Special Police in Poonamallee. He had promised his family to return early on the night of November 14 (Diwali) and celebrate the festival with them. However, his duty hours stretched further and he could not come on time. Ganesh was out on duty that night.
His wife Tamilarasi kept calling him and after being infuriated that the husband could not make it on Diwali day, she had a fight and left for her parents’ home who live in Tiruvallur. Later on Friday, Ganesh visited his in-laws’ place to bring back his wife, however, she was not convinced. This left the husband totally dejected when he returned to his home.

After sometime, his friend found him lying unconscious and rushed him immediately to Kilpauk Medical College Hospital. However, sadly Ganesh could not survive and was declared dead on arrival.
Husband has not left any suicide note behind. Ambattur police registered a case and further investigation is on.
According to 2019 NCRB Suicide Report, 98,000 Men die by suicide in India every year, which translates to nearly 11 Men per hour. The top reason cited in the report for male suicides is ‘Family Problems’. Yet, Government of India does not recognise the need for a Men’s Commission or a Family Welfare Ministry which can be a balanced forum allowing the male member of the family to be heard equally.
