A man from Haryana died by suicide on December 21, 2020, by hanging himself after being harassed by his in-laws. The deceased left a suicide note to express the emotional harassment and trauma he had undergone.

The man mainly accused his brother-in-law and his in-laws for abetting his suicide.

Case:

As reported by Punjab Kesari, the deceased has been identified as Naresh Kumar, a resident of Barada, Haryana, who got married to Paramjeet, a resident of Ajrawar village around 10-years-ago. The couple was blessed with a daughter, who is now 5-years-old. The husband and wife would often indulge in a domestic dispute.

Satish, Paramjeet’s brother used to visit the couple very frequently and would constantly fight with Kumar. Due to these conflicts, the wife left her matrimonial home and went to reside at her maternal house.

Naresh wanted his daughter and wife back to return to him and was making efforts for the same. However, his in-laws wanted their daughter Paramjeet to divorce him and get married to another man. As informed by the husband’s family, Naresh was mentally disturbed, and hence, ended his life.

The cops have registered a case against his wife Paramjeet, brother-in-law Satish and sister-in-law under Section 306, based on the suicide note recovered and complaint filed by husband’s family members.

#HusbandSuicide is a serious problem in India which has been completely overlooked by successive governments. Every law in a matrimonial case virtually favours a woman. Even if husband wants to break free from an abusive marriage, he has no choice but to be at the mercy of his wife and in-laws. If a wife chooses to dump the husband taking away their child, again the man has no choice but to drag himself endlessly in court fighting for visitation rights of his child.

This situation and the biased legal system has resulted in 98,000 male suicides Vs 41,000 female suicide as per NCRB Suicide Report 2019. The top cause in the report has been attributed to family problems. Read detailed report below.
